My favorite poet is Rilke!

Finding a decent translation is tricky, however, I recommend The Selected Poems of Maria Rainer Rilke by Stephen Mitchell! Here's an example:His vision, from the constantly passing bars, has grown so weary that it cannot hold anything else. It seems to him there are a thousand bars, and behind the bars, no world. As he paces in cramped circles, over and over, the movement of his powerful soft strides is like a ritual dance around a center in which a mighty will stands paralyzed. Only at times, the curtain of the pupils lifts, quietly. An image enters in, rushes down through the tense, arrested muscles, plunges into the heart and is gone. -- Rainer Maria Rilke (Transl. S. Mitchell) I love that particular book so much that I've purchased it several times...I tend to give away books of this nature, to inspire others to explore new genres of wrting. Hi Arjay-I have dabbled in poetry from time to time, however, I have never made a really serious commitment to it. Other than the occasional entry in my personal journals, I haven't really given poetry a go since I was a 20-something and singing for a band. :D I love the idea of your site and will have a look see when I finish posting this. Do you find this valuable? |
